Making Memories and Movie Magic at the Historic Mountain Lake Lodge

Relax and Savor Virginia’s Blue Ridge

SPONSORED CONTENT

Nestled in the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, Mountain Lake Lodge offers an unforgettable escape. Located within a 2,600-acre nature preserve and bird sanctuary near Blacksburg, this historic retreat has something for everyone—from adventure seekers and nature lovers to families, couples and groups looking to reconnect. With more than 22 miles of scenic trails and breathtaking views, it’s the perfect place to unplug and make lasting memories.

Mountain Lake Lodge is also home to the iconic Dirty Dancing movie, filmed right here 38 years ago. Lifelong fans or those new to the film can step into the world of Dirty Dancing with our signature “Dirty Dancing Weekends.” These fun-filled getaways feature themed activities, dance lessons, scavenger hunts and self-guided tours of the movie’s famous filming locations—including Baby’s Cabin, the Gazebo and Harvest Restaurant, where Johnny and Baby first met.

“With the demand for immersive experiences greater than ever, it is incredibly nostalgic to experience not just a movie set, but a real place – Kellerman’s Mountain House,” says Heidi Stone, president and CEO of the resort.

The film’s legacy continues to thrive—Dirty Dancing is the only Virginia film in the Library of Congress National Film Registry, securing its place in history for future generations.

For those who want to relive the movie’s unforgettable moments and the magic of Dirty Dancing, there is also the annual “Dirty Dancing Days Festival” on August 16. Celebrate the film with special day tickets available for the public, as well as exclusive overnight packages.

Whether visiting for a relaxing getaway, corporate retreat or memorable wedding, Mountain Lake Lodge offers something special for all occasions. With stunning views and versatile event spaces, it’s the perfect place to host a large or more intimate gathering.

This year, the resort is unveiling a new Spa & Outdoor Nature Sanctuary along with a fully renovated Mary’s Barn, a beloved venue for many guests.

Guests can also enjoy a casual dining experience at Stony Creek Tavern with a menu full of delicious, locally-inspired dishes.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the new Giles County Trail Center at Mountain Lake Lodge, which provides access to some of the best hiking in Virginia including the infamous Bald Knob overlook. Guests can also explore regional art and culture with Mountain Lake Excursions, or enjoy family-friendly fun with Gator Tours, arts & crafts and naturalist programs. The nearby New River offers excellent opportunities for fishing, rafting and kayaking.

From November 22 to January 1, 2026, Mountain Lake Lodge transforms into a winter wonderland for the holidays. The “Magical Christmas Village & Marketplace” features sparkling lights, holiday shopping, live performances and special events such as the Pinecone Express train ride and Brunch with Santa.

“Our Magical Christmas Village & Marketplace has become a premier destination to celebrate  the season and enjoy all the things that make the holidays special,” says Stone.
