Milton’s Local, a Hopewell-based provider of high-quality and locally sourced meats, has also teamed up with Virginia-based brewery Devils Backbone to create their newest flavor of sausage: Devils Backbone Vienna Lager Beer Bratwurst. The latest addition to Milton’s Local signature line highlights the best of Virginia’s brews. The Vienna Lager’s mild, slightly malty flavor has won regional, national and international awards including back-to-back gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival in 2015 and 2016.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Devils Backbone.” said Milton’s Local founder James Faison. “Their passion for crafting excellent Virginia brews and their proven quality makes them the perfect partners.”
Faison, who graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, makes sausage as well as low sodium bacon from regionally sourced pork raised without hormones, antibiotics or steroids. As a fourth-generation farmer, Faison grew up among small, independent Virginia farmers. His time on the farm stuck with him during his education at Harvard University and the University of Virginia School of Law, and his tenure as a corporate attorney in Miami. It wasn’t until he inherited the family farm that he followed his calling and returned to agriculture. Leaving the beaches behind James headed back to Virginia on a mission. Knowing the struggles facing many modern farmers James created Milton’s Local and named it in honor of his grandfather, Milton Faison.
