Press 626’s sister location, Press Wine Bar, celebrated its soft opening in Virginia Beach on Dec. 3, and since that first intimate gathering, the wine bar has been in full swing, serving Virginia Beach residents glasses of exquisite wine from the bar’s list of over 600 bottles as well as extraordinary dishes prepared by head chef and Virginia Beach resident, Chef Keith Hunt.
After nine successful years with Press 626 in the neighborhood of Ghent in Norfolk, owner Lindsay Bennett decided to expand her vinicultural passion to the Commonwealth’s salty shores. Like the Norfolk location, Press Wine Bar showcases the same lavish décor. The walls are painted deep teal and decorated with stunning gold accents including maps of various Californian, Italian and French wine countries bordered by metallic frames.
The elegant bar is lined with more than dozen barstools and lit by heavy golden fixtures. A plethora of bottles are displayed in an exposed wood case behind the bar. In addition to the wine bar’s extensive bottle menu, beverage director Brett Helke has crafted a drink menu featuring staple brews, sangrias and champagne cocktails. The menu ranges from coffee stouts to a Lavender Mule and Press’s unique take on a sidecar. Happy hour specials are offered from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Much like its cocktail menu, Press’ dinner spread is overflowing with sweet and savory eats handcrafted from ingredients that are organic, sustainable and locally sourced. The menu offers fine meats and artisan cheeses for a build-your-own charcuterie board, hearty soups and entrées from both land and sea. For those who love Press 626’s award winning four-cheese grilled cheese sandwich, no need to fret; the iconic dish is served at the Virginia Beach location as well. Press also offers a decadent dessert menu that is rich in flavors and textures from sweet mousses, jellies and chocolate ganache. Beginning in February, Press will expand their menu even further by offering brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
