Racing through the finish line after a relay is always rewarding, but you may dash even faster knowing Green Flash brews are waiting for you and your teammates. Green Flash Brewing Company has introduced a new running event—The Growler Relay. These social sprints include teams of two to eight runners of your choice. The first race—a Norfolk-Virginia Beach edition—on April 15 runs from O’Connor Brewing Co. in Norfolk to the Green Flash Brewing Co. in Virginia Beach and back. More relays continue throughout the spring, summer and fall in Ashburn, Roanoke, Harrisonburg, Richmond, Lorton and Winchester.
Routes average about 55 miles total, and each leg varies in distance. Teams are responsible for providing their own car(s), van(s) or Winnebago, and runners will transition at pre-set points along the course. Organizers say to expect the journeys to be an adventure, with road trip dancing, transition point games, finish line parties and commemorative growlers for participants.
