Of the 3,000 spirits submitted to the American Distilling Institute’s 14th Annual Judging of Craft Spirits, Virginia Beach-based Tarnished Truth Distilling Co. was recognized as a national top producer. The swanky distillery situated in the basement of the historic Cavalier Hotel was honored with three bronze medals and one gold for its variations of whiskey, moonshine and gin.
The awards gala was hosted in Denver, Colo. on March 20 and recognized the global distilling community for its overall excellence and dedication to quality from barrel to glass. The blind panel of distinguished expert judges was widely impressed by the year-old Tarnished Truth and granted the distillery four Certified Craft Blended Spirit titles.
Leading with gold was Tarnished Truth’s Old Cavalier Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged nine years. The honey-colored liquor was followed by three bronze awards for their Fourth Handle Coastal American Gin, Bourbon Mash Moonshine and High Rye Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged three years. Tarnished Truth distiller Andrew Yancey says, “We are truly honored [by] the recognition bestowed upon us from such a prestigious organization. [It’s] an acknowledgment of our work leading the charge for Virginia spirits that reflects the region’s deep connection and rich history of craft distilling. We take pride in what we do and we raise a glass to the hard work that all independent distillers put into making great craft spirits.”
