New Realm Brewing Company, an Atlanta-based brewery with a new second location in Virginia Beach, won the 2018 Rising Star Award at the fifth annual Brewbound Awards on Nov. 27. Each year, five breweries are selected from around the country that demonstrate a unique ability to thrive in a challenging climate and emerge as players to watch in the coming years. In addition to New Realm’s award, this year’s winners include Lawson’s Finest Liquids in Waitsfield, Vt.; Tree House Brewing in Charlton, Mass.; Braxton Brewing Company in Covington, Ky.; and Fort Point Beer Company in San Francisco, Calif.
“We are proud, humbled and thankful to be named one of Brewbound’s Rising Star breweries,” said Carey Falcone, co-founder and chief operating officer at New Realm Brewing Company. “We are honored to receive this award in our first year, and we are eager to build upon the foundation laid in the past year for many years to come.”
The Brewbound Awards recognize breweries for their execution of various business and philanthropic initiatives, as well as large and small beer companies and notable industry figures for their impact in the beer industry.
New Realm Brewing opened its Virginia Beach location in August of 2018. Co-founded by Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele, the brewery features a tasting room offering more than 15 different types of beer on tap, a 44,00-square-foot beer garden with fire pits, adult game areas, patio bar and a large private event space. As part of the culture and business model, New Realm only distributes in states where they have brewing facilities so they can support the communities in which they distribute with high paying jobs, capital investment and charitable giving.
