The Williamsburg Winery recently announced its Tour de Virginia, a four-day cycling experience through Virginia’s scenic and historic countryside, Sept. 23-26.
Fifty tickets will be sold for the four-day, three-night event that will begin and end at the winery. Cyclists will travel 290 miles total, about 75 miles per day, exploring Jamestown Settlement, Bear Creek Lake State Park and Petersburg National Battlefield and more.
“This is not a race or a timed event,” said Williamsburg Winery vice president of food and beverage, Simon Smith, who created the concept alongside winery founder Patrick Duffeler. “Riders will get the chance to explore Virginia’s historic points, relax after each ride by dining at local Virginia restaurants and, of course, enjoy Williamsburg Winery wines.”
The inaugural event will raise funds for Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit organization that delivers and prepares meals to vulnerable adults and families. Tour de Virginia will donate one meal for every four miles completed. Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels will also receive a portion of ticket sales.
Tickets are $1,500 and include lodging and meals. Tickets purchased before June 14 will receive an early bird rate of $1,125 and six bottles of Williamsburg Winery Estate wines.
