Virginia wineries continue to make their mark on the international stage as Barboursville Vineyards and The Williamsburg Winery were awarded medals at the 13th Annual Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. The Winemaker Challenge is the only U.S. wine competition judged exclusively by professional winemakers.
Barboursville Vineyards’ 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve won Best Sauvignon Blanc with 94 points, earning a platinum award. The winery was also awarded two silver medals for the 2017 Nebbiolo Reserve and the 2017 Octagon.
The Williamsburg Winery was also awarded a platinum medal for its 2019 Petit Manseng (yet to be released), coming in at 94 points. The winery also earned four gold for the 2019 Wessex Hundred Viognier (yet to be released), 2019 Cabernet Franc , 2019 Rkatsiteli Limited Release (Wine Club exclusive release) and 2019 Petite Fleur Limited Release Aged in Cognac Barrels, along with silver medals for the 2019 Wessex Hundred Chardonnay, 2017 Merlot Reserve and 2019 Wessex Hundred Petit Verdot.
