Nestled on the border of the George Washington National Forest at 6502 S Page Valley Rd in Luray, VA, Camp Outback—operated by Shenandoah River Outfitters—is the premier destination for a quintessential outdoor experience in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Since 1970, this outfitter has specialized in providing daily trips on the scenic South Fork of the Shenandoah River, featuring beginner flat water and riffles perfect for all skill levels.
The core of the experience is on the water, with rentals available for canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing. Whether you’re planning a relaxing day float or a fun-filled weekend, the campground’s proximity to the Outfitters’ store makes it simple to transition directly from your campsite to the water, with convenient bus service for drop-off and pick-up. For groups, the outfitters can even arrange for a special “river-side lunch” and steak dinner to cap off your trip.
Camp Outback offers 25 wooded, tents-only campsites beneath a canopy of hardwoods and white pines, providing a true retreat from the outside world. Each site includes a picnic table, a charcoal grill, and a fire ring, accommodating up to 10 campers. Amenities include shared bathroom facilities with hot water showers. Please note: the campsites are non-electric and not set up for RVs.
Beyond the river, guests are just a short drive from world-class attractions. Explore the famous Luray Caverns, take a scenic drive along Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park, or hike the mountain trails.
